This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Monitor ongoing advancements in the Linux Kernel and pinpoint features and functionalities that align with Arista's products and internal development requirements.
• Develop and sustain EOS Kernel features along with tests utilizing C, C++, and Python.
• Evaluate and contribute to functional and design specifications.
• Create automated tests and test infrastructure to verify features.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to validate CPUs, NICs, and other kernel-dependent hardware components for integration into Arista products.
• Contribute features to the mainline Linux Kernel alongside the Kernel community.
• Integrate new Kernel versions for EOS and internal development while working with a team of Kernel engineers.
• Provide technical leadership across various features, projects, and tools.
• Analyze, address, and resolve issues in customer networks together with Customer Support Engineers and customers.
• Investigate System Test Engineer issues and deliver solutions.
• Mentor new and junior engineers.
• Oversee projects from inception to deployment and customer interactions, ensuring high-quality delivery.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 3 years, or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive expertise and experience in programming with C.
• Knowledge of C++ and Python is preferred.
• Significant hands-on experience in troubleshooting issues, resolving bugs, and developing Linux kernel features.
• Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, design, and implementation.
• Understanding of the upstream Linux community’s patching processes and protocols.
• Comprehension of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.
• Practical understanding of contemporary software engineering principles and practices.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Robust software design and implementation skills.
• Capability to work independently as well as in small teams.
• Proficiency in articulating and documenting designs and implementations clearly and concisely.
