Senior Software Engineer – Java, Trading & Liquidity

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Develop and Manage Essential Trading Services: Design, construct, deploy, and operate scalable Java services that facilitate trading, pricing, execution, and liquidity. Take full ownership of critical backend services from architecture and implementation to production support and ongoing enhancements.

• Trading, Execution & Liquidity: Enhance and refine order management, execution, pricing, market data, and liquidity management functionalities. Create and sustain integrations with exchanges, liquidity providers, custodians, payment processors, and various external platforms. Boost execution quality by improving pricing accuracy, spreads, fill rates, liquidity availability, and minimizing slippage.

• Build Dependable Financial Systems: Design robust order lifecycles encompassing validation, routing, execution, settlement, reconciliation, cancellations, retries, and recovery. Ensure financial accuracy across balances, positions, fees, and settlements through precision, idempotency, consistency, and auditability. Develop distributed systems that function correctly under concurrency, retries, duplicate events, and eventual consistency.

• Enhance Performance & Reliability: Continuously optimize system performance, resilience, observability, throughput, and operational preparedness. Investigate production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive enhancements. Establish testing strategies that include unit, integration, contract, performance, and resilience testing.

• Elevate the Engineering Standards: Engage in architecture and technical design discussions within the Trading & Liquidity team. Review code, mentor engineers, and assist in raising engineering standards across the group. Work closely with Product, Platform, QA, Security, Compliance, Risk, Finance, and Operations to deliver dependable financial systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional backend software engineering experience.

• Solid commercial background in building Java backend systems.

• Demonstrated experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.

• Proven track record of owning production systems from design to operation.

• Experience in creating distributed systems, microservices, or event-driven architectures.

• Familiarity with trading, crypto, exchanges, capital markets, payments, or other transaction-intensive financial environments.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and enhancing engineering practices.

• Java: Understanding of JVM fundamentals, memory management, collections, generics, concurrency and multithreading, streams, performance optimization, exception handling, and functional programming.

• Spring Ecosystem: Proficiency in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, dependency injection, transaction management, scheduling, validation, and configuration.

• Databases: Knowledge of PostgreSQL or MySQL, SQL optimization, indexing, transactions, isolation levels, data modeling, and connection pooling.

• Distributed Systems: Experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, Kafka or RabbitMQ, service communication, eventual consistency, distributed transactions, idempotency, retries, caching, and failure recovery.

• Cloud & DevOps: Proficiency in Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, monitoring, logging, tracing, observability, and production operations.

• Security: Understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, secure coding practices, secrets management, OAuth2, JWT, and OpenID Connect.
