Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure – Release

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take the lead on infrastructure at Feanix and establish the foundational elements for other engineers to build upon.

• Manage the delivery ecosystem from an engineer's commit through to the decisions made for deployment on a farm.

• Create alerting systems and service-level objectives for overnight farm pipelines.

• Develop a release process where staging occurs with every commit, providing engineers with swift feedback.

• Oversee infrastructure as code from beginning to end.

• Set up and monitor cost baselines for each herd, minimize waste, and assist in cost estimation prior to deployment.

• Construct test infrastructure for third-party herd software and machines that transfer files to and from farms.

• Support infrastructure utilizing Python, AWS, FastAPI, Celery, ECS Fargate, PostgreSQL, S3, OpenTofu, and GitHub Actions.

• Engage in weekly on-call responsibilities and triage rotation.

• Travel 15–20%, which includes visits to commercial dairies and the Feanix headquarters.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in OpenTofu or Terraform with significant experience in AWS, including ECS/Fargate, IAM, S3, and networking.

• Proven experience in CI design, test environments with actual databases, staged rollouts, and regression testing of pipeline outputs.

• Sound operational judgment related to alerting and service objectives.

• Comfortable working with heterogeneous compute environments.

• Strong proficiency in Python.

• Familiarity with GitHub Actions and OIDC.

• Understanding of security fundamentals.

• Daily, impactful use of coding agents and a clear understanding of their limitations.

• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

• Unable to provide visa sponsorship or transfers.

• Preferred: experience in supporting a small team through periods of rapid growth.

• Preferred: experience in managing software fleets running on machines that are not under your control.

• Preferred: readiness for SOC 2 or similar compliance standards.

• Experience in agriculture or biology is not a requirement.
