Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take charge of production uptime, latency, provisioning speed, infrastructure costs, and incident response for essential platform services.

• Develop and maintain AWS infrastructure utilizing Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS, Helm, Docker, EC2, CodeBuild, ECR, S3, IAM, networking, and secrets management.

• Design and enhance backend and platform systems for scalability, encompassing capacity planning, autoscaling, queuing, backpressure, cleanup jobs, retries, and rollback procedures.

• Establish and refine dashboards, alerts, logs, traces, SLOs, runbooks, and on-call processes.

• Create dependable CI/CD, release automation, environment management, and deployment workflows.

• Write scripts to automate systems, enhance backend services, and develop internal tools.

• Provide support for HUD’s infrastructure related to RL training data, evaluation systems, and its marketplace for advanced AI labs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience managing production cloud infrastructure for a high-availability, user-centric platform, including uptime, performance, deployment safety, and cost management.

• Extensive experience with AWS infrastructure and containerized environments.

• Strong preference for candidates with experience in Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS, Docker, EC2, CodeBuild, ECR, S3, IAM, load balancers, networking, and secrets management.

• Familiarity with operating CI/CD, environment management, release automation, observability, alerting, and incident response systems.

• Strong backend engineering judgment, including expertise in service architecture, APIs, databases, asynchronous systems, queues, scaling constraints, and production failure scenarios.

• Capability to write clean, maintainable code and apply software engineering principles across product architecture, infrastructure, backend systems, and developer workflows.

• Emphasis on technical aptitude, ownership, and potential for learning rather than years of experience.

• Willingness to work hours with 70–80% overlap with either San Francisco or Singapore time zones.
