Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction for a significant infrastructure area over multiple quarters.

• Oversee several infrastructure initiatives simultaneously across both the central team and feature teams.

• Design and deploy Terraform modules, pipeline patterns, and operational tools.

• Assess requests from feature teams to determine which should be standardized, remain under team ownership, or not be developed.

• Manage incident response, on-call quality, deployment reliability, and the health of vendor integrations.

• Develop engineering guidelines, tools, and methodologies utilized throughout Engine.

• Mentor feature engineers who adhere to platform standards.

• Act as a representative for the infrastructure team in cross-functional discussions involving product and engineering leadership.

• Provide updates on shipping, align priorities, and critically evaluate decisions during bi-weekly team meetings.

• Minimize unnecessary SDLC approval processes and infrastructure dependencies.

• Collaborate with feature teams across various business verticals to enhance platform capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in building and managing production cloud infrastructure.

• Extensive expertise in AWS, encompassing multi-account environments, networking, IAM, and security boundaries.

• Proficient in Terraform at an expert level, including reusable modules, state management, drift detection, and execution patterns.

• Strong background in CI/CD with GitHub Actions, reusable workflows, OIDC, and secret management.

• Proven track record of delivering platform infrastructure that feature teams have adopted.

• Preference for enabling teams rather than gatekeeping.

• Experience in leading the technical direction across multiple teams.

• Capability to make precise trade-offs, communicate them effectively, and guide other engineers.

• Intuition for deciding when a problem necessitates a centralized solution versus team ownership.

• Cloudflare production-scale experience is highly preferred.

• Experience with Datadog, JFrog, or similar vendor integrations is strongly preferred.

• Background in cost observability or FinOps tooling is strongly preferred.

• Experience in a platform team serving internal customers is strongly preferred.
