Senior Software Engineer – Infra, Compute Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the design, development, and management of Kubernetes cluster management tools and automation systems that ensure the reliability and self-healing capabilities of our compute platform at scale.

• Create developer-centric tools and workflows that enhance the interaction of engineers across Coinbase with Kubernetes, placing a strong emphasis on integrating AI-driven processes and support.

• Provide new compute capabilities for service owners, including one-off jobs, cron scheduling, deployment strategies, EFS support, and automated right-sizing.

• Promote operational excellence by automating repetitive tasks, minimizing on-call responsibilities, and continually enhancing platform observability and incident response.

• Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to ensure the compute platform aligns with Coinbase's standards for security, uptime, and performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on building and operating Kubernetes or similar compute orchestration systems (e.g., Mesos, Nomad, ECS).

• Direct experience with AWS and/or GCP infrastructure services (e.g., EC2, EKS, IAM, VPC, networking) in a large-scale production environment.

• Proven ability to design, implement, and manage distributed infrastructure systems, including diagnosing complex failures and driving them to root-cause resolution.

• Practical experience with the CNCF ecosystem (e.g., Helm, Prometheus, ArgoCD, Envoy) and a demonstrated history of applying these tools to address real infrastructure challenges.

• Established ability to leverage AI tools in infrastructure workflows to enhance automation, developer productivity, or operational efficiency.

• Uses generative AI responsibly, ensuring human oversight to deliver business-ready results and achieve measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
