This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
β’ Take ownership of the design and advancement of your pod's systems from start to finish.
β’ Make system-level decisions on when to implement eventing (Kafka, SQS), workflow orchestration (Temporal, Airflow, DAGs), caching, asynchronous pipelines, or new services, and when to refrain from doing so.
β’ Architect solutions for horizontal scalability and consistent, low latency under actual Thrive traffic conditions.
β’ Break down existing services into scalable components when it provides significant benefits; avoid decomposition merely for its own sake.
β’ Focus on engineering decisions that lead to outcomes. Measure what you develop; substantiate your releases with data.
β’ Adopt test-driven development from the outset. Ensure quality, reliability, and observability are prioritized, not treated as afterthoughts.
β’ Present Product and Design alternatives along with a recommendation, rather than proposing a single solution.
β’ Elevate the team's architectural and systems thinking: mentor, evaluate, challenge, and uplift.
β’ Be accountable for the service level agreements (SLAs) related to the surfaces your pod manages.
β’ Over 5 years of experience in building and managing high-traffic, customer-facing systems.
β’ Strong foundation in computer science principles. Proficient in object-oriented design and relational database design and reasoning.
β’ Fluent in system and cloud technologies: eventing (Kafka, SNS, SQS), workflow orchestration (Temporal, Airflow, DAGs), distributed systems trade-offs, caching, asynchronous pipelines, idempotency, and backpressure.
β’ Comfortable working across various programming languages and technology stacks; view language as a tool rather than an identity. Our current stack includes PHP/Magento on the backend and React/Next on the frontend on AWS; the ideal candidate should be adept at navigating between these layers.
β’ Familiar with AWS (Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, SQS, etc.) and able to reason clearly about the trade-offs among relational, document, and wide-column databases.
β’ Proven history of delivering impactful, customer-facing features in a production environment at scale.
β’ Communicates clearly and appropriately; tends to provide options along with recommendations rather than excessive details.
β’ Maintains a big-picture perspective. Analyzes systems and outcomes without getting bogged down in syntax.
β’ Member-focused. Consistently prioritizes Customer, Team, and Business needs.
β’ Experience with observability and monitoring tools (New Relic, Datadog, or similar) to ensure SLA adherence, Apdex, and error rate management.
β’ Comprehensive health benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life, and disability).
β’ Competitive salary (based on experience) plus equity.
β’ 401k Employer Match.
β’ 9 Observed Holidays.
β’ Flexible Paid Time Off.
β’ Subsidized ClassPass Membership providing access to fitness classes and wellness and beauty services.
β’ Opportunity to work in our stunning office located in Playa Vista.
β’ Free Thrive Market membership with exclusive employee discounts.
β’ Coverage for Life Coaching and Therapy Sessions through our holistic mental health and well-being platform.
