Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Design and deliver comprehensive product features, encompassing the user interface.

• Engage with both frontend and backend elements, as well as infrastructure and AI pipelines.

• Collaborate intensively with the grant team to address genuine user challenges.

• Create user-friendly interfaces tailored for grant writers.

• Take ownership of issues from the discovery phase through to production deployment.

• Enhance workflows, automation, and product functionalities to minimize application completion time.

• Elevate AI capabilities through prompt engineering, context management, cost optimization, and multi-provider AI integrations.

• Utilize AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, and OpenAI technologies.

• Construct and manage AI pipelines in a production setting.

• Oversee the AI evaluation practices, including prompt quality, model selection, and regression detection.

• Collaborate with AI agents and implement tool-calling workflows where necessary.

• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot within the live production environment.

• Utilize Sentry, CloudWatch, and Postgres for performance monitoring.

• Contribute to AWS infrastructure initiatives, including ECS and RDS.

• Ensure and enhance production reliability and performance.

• Influence technical architecture, code quality, engineering standards, and the technical roadmap.

• Assist in establishing engineering processes and technical standards.

• Play a pivotal role in developing scalable technical foundations as one of the initial engineering hires.

⛳️ Requirements

• Multiple years of professional experience in TypeScript and Node.js.

• Deep expertise in Postgres, including proficiency with JSONB, query performance, and migrations.

• Strong full-stack development skills with Next.js 15, React Query, Express, BullMQ, AWS (ECS, RDS), and Terraform.

• Practical experience in building and operating AI pipelines within a production environment, extending beyond simple AI API integration.

• Background working with LLMs and AI-driven applications.

• Comprehensive understanding of prompt engineering, context management, model selection, and AI evaluation.

• Excellent debugging abilities in live production systems.

• High degree of autonomy and ownership.

• Usability-focused mindset.

• Comfortable in an environment where parameters are not completely defined.

• AI-native perspective on software development, with familiarity using Claude Code or Cursor.

• Proficiency in the German language at B1 level or higher is a plus.

• Experience with AI agents and tool-calling workflows in production is advantageous.
