Senior Software Engineer – Full Stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of features from start to finish, including user interface design, collaborating with the grant team through to production.

• Transform ambiguous business challenges into clearly defined technical plans and deliver initial versions swiftly.

• Enhance the AI pipeline via prompt engineering, context management, cost management, and multi-provider configurations using AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, and OpenAI.

• Develop and manage AI evaluation practices focused on prompt quality, model selection, and regression detection.

• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot the live production environment utilizing tools such as Sentry, CloudWatch, and PostgreSQL performance monitoring tools.

• Make architectural choices and influence code quality, engineering standards, and the technical roadmap.

• Create user-friendly interfaces for grant writers.

• Reduce the timeframe from project initiation to the submission of a completed application through enhanced features, reliability, and automation.

• Collaborate directly with the founders and work closely with the grant-writing team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a senior engineering position.

• Proven history of owning products or significant features from inception to completion.

• Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment.

• Several years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js.

• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL, including JSONB, query optimization, and migrations.

• Familiarity with Next.js / React Query on the frontend.

• Experience with Express and BullMQ on the backend.

• Knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including ECS and RDS.

• Practical experience in building and maintaining AI pipelines in a production setting.

• Experience that extends beyond merely utilizing an AI API.

• Familiarity with AI-native tools like Claude Code or Cursor.

• Proficient in written and spoken English.

• Ability to convey technical trade-offs to non-technical team members.

• Strong sense of ownership and capability to work independently without detailed guidance.

• Proficiency in German at B1 level or higher is advantageous but not mandatory.

• Experience with AI agents and tool-calling workflows in production is a plus.

• Familiarity with Terraform is an added benefit.
