This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malaysia.
• Design, create, and enhance robust backend services and APIs that support Toku's cloud communications platform.
• Architect and implement scalable distributed systems and microservices.
• Build and refine event-driven systems utilizing technologies like Kafka, AWS SQS, and RabbitMQ.
• Develop backend integrations that connect Toku's platform with external communication providers and manage asynchronous workflows.
• Develop and maintain backend services on AWS, adhering to modern cloud-native engineering principles.
• Contribute to the technical direction by challenging existing designs, enhancing architecture, and helping to evolve backend systems.
• Take ownership of backend systems in production, including monitoring and troubleshooting tasks.
• Assist in the continuous modernization of backend services.
• Design and optimize SQL-based data models, ensuring they are performant, correct, and scalable.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code; actively participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
• Proactively identify areas of technical debt and opportunities for enhancement.
• Extensive hands-on experience in designing, building, and operating production backend systems.
• Solid practical experience in developing production backend services using Go.
• Familiarity with designing or managing distributed systems, microservices, and backend architectures.
• Practical experience with technologies such as Kafka, AWS SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging and event-streaming platforms.
• Proficient in designing, building, and integrating production APIs and backend services.
• Strong fundamentals in cloud engineering.
• In-depth SQL knowledge, including schema design, query optimization, and management of production data.
• Experience with NoSQL technologies like DynamoDB, Cassandra, or Redis is a plus.
• Proven experience in operating production systems, encompassing monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, performance optimization, and ongoing reliability improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to enhance existing systems, influence technical direction, and proactively address engineering challenges rather than merely completing assigned tasks.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, or equivalent technologies.
