Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Recoveries

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and achieve quarterly objectives for the team.

• Guide engineers through unclear, open-ended challenges and provide support during the delivery process.

• Work collaboratively with product management, design, and analytics teams during the ideation and product development phases.

• Clearly communicate technical limitations and collaborate on decisions that involve risks and trade-offs.

• Identify and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, and business challenges.

• Develop and track metrics that support artifact operations and system availability.

• Address issues proactively and assist in maintaining operations and on-call responsibilities.

• Establish and enhance standards for code reviews and design practices.

• Promote quality and ownership through technical writing and presentations.

• Foster team skills through constructive feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

• Create a robust recoveries platform to optimize the recovery of charged-off loans.

• Monitor, identify, and reduce discrepancies between Affirm and partner systems.

• Oversee loans during the final stages of their lifecycle and execute recovery strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in software engineering.

• Proven experience in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems.

• Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in deploying web applications using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue.

• Familiarity with designing, implementing, and managing batch processing or asynchronous workloads.

• Experience with scheduled jobs, backfills, and large-scale data processing.

• Strong emphasis on correctness, observability, and handling failures effectively.

• Capability to define technical plans for major features or system components.

• Ability to create elegant, simple, and scalable designs.

• Adherence to high-quality coding practices and the ability to implement significant changes safely within a large codebase.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must reside in Spain.

• Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
