Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Lake Analytics Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage essential platform functionalities: Create and implement platform features that empower engineers throughout Affirm to design, deploy, and manage data applications at scale.

• Create integrations: Build and sustain connections between the platform and internal systems.

• Enhance data accessibility and governance: Design and administer secure data access strategies within the platform's analytical framework.

• Automate repetitive tasks and enable self-service: Identify recurring support challenges and develop automation and tools to facilitate self-service solutions.

• Enhance observability and incident management: Establish telemetry, alerting, and logging systems for diagnosing and resolving issues.

• Assist with platform operations: Engage in on-call duties and manage production incident triage across platform services.

• Contribute to the evolving platform roadmap: Collaborate on the design and development of next-generation platform capabilities.

• Elevate engineering standards: Establish and maintain high standards during code reviews, design assessments, and operational readiness evaluations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Analytical Data Platform Expertise: Proven experience in managing a cloud analytical data platform (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or similar).

• Container and Deployment Skills: Proficient in building and managing containerized applications — including Docker image management and CI/CD pipeline development (Buildkite, GitHub Actions, or similar).

• Platform and Developer Tooling Experience: Background in developing internal platforms, developer tools, or self-service infrastructure that enhances engineering productivity.

• Integrations and Networking Proficiency: Comfortable creating integrations between systems — including REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, webhook ingestion, and secrets management.

• Backend Engineering Knowledge: Strong skills in Python and SQL for constructing dependable and maintainable platform services.

• Operational Responsibility: Demonstrated operational instincts — you instrument your systems, create runbooks, manage your alerts, and consider on-call responsibilities as a design constraint from the outset.

• Familiarity with Agentic and AI-Ready Data Tools: Interest or experience in semantic layer design and LLM-integrated platform workflows.

• Communication and Team Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams.
