
Senior Software Engineer, Backend – Batch Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership and achieve quarterly objectives for the team.
• Guide engineers through uncertainty to address open-ended challenges and facilitate delivery.
• Work collaboratively with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Engage in ideation, clarify technical constraints, and collaborate on risk assessment and trade-off decisions.
• Recognize and lead the resolution of project, process, technology, and business challenges.
• Enhance operations and availability by developing and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when necessary, and assisting with on-call responsibilities.
• Establish or refine code review and design standards, promoting them through writing and technical presentations.
• Foster team talent through constructive feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.
• Construct and uphold a dependable, scalable, self-service cloud computing platform for critical batch workloads that support ML, Product, and Financial Engineering.
• Over 4 years of experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Proficient in backend programming languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Proven experience in developing highly available distributed systems.
• Familiarity with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Background in building and managing workflow orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, or Luigi.
• Experience or familiarity with scaling Spark or Flink for extremely large datasets on Kubernetes.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Capability to write high-quality, comprehensible, and reusable code.
• Skilled in making substantial changes within large codebases safely.
• Experience in developing tools and practices for secure large-scale codebase modifications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
