Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and enhance the primary platform infrastructure to manage high-volume web traffic within the CDN and edge computing layers.

• Assume a proactive technical leadership position in architectural design, strategic planning, and the composition of design documents with a long-term perspective.

• Strategically plan and implement gradual rollouts: establish target audiences, key performance indicators (KPIs), and success metrics prior to deploying significant modifications.

• Troubleshoot intricate front-end behaviors resulting from backend platform changes across various browsers, devices, and geographical locations.

• Partner with the data engineering team to guarantee scalability in testability and develop the appropriate measurement and observability framework.

• Address high-complexity technical challenges with considerable scope and uncertainty, where few established guidelines are available.

• Guide engineers and act as a technical escalation point for challenging platform issues.

• Keep abreast of the latest web performance technologies, edge computing methodologies, and browser optimization strategies.

• Adopt and incorporate AI coding tools into your engineering processes to expedite delivery and enhance code quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5-10 years of software engineering experience, with a robust background in developing and scaling high-traffic, multi-tenant web platforms.

• Expert-level skills in TypeScript (primary language), JavaScript (real JS, not just framework-level), and Python.

• Proven experience in designing and managing distributed, high-availability systems at significant scales.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure (cloud agnostic environment).

• Knowledge of CDN infrastructure and web performance optimization, utilizing tools such as Cloudflare, Lighthouse, WebPageTest, and techniques like web workers, lazy loading, and code splitting.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi or equivalent).

• Strong SQL and data querying capabilities; adept at working with data warehouses and making data-driven engineering decisions.

• Familiarity with message queues (SQS, Kinesis, or equivalent) and CI/CD pipelines.

• Proficiency in data storage solutions such as PostgreSQL, Redshift, or equivalent.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail: recognizes that at massive traffic scales, edge cases are not merely edge cases.

• Regular use of AI tools in engineering workflows: Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or equivalent.

• Strong English communication skills: comfortable engaging in technical discussions and asynchronous written collaboration with a distributed team.

• Availability to work full Eastern Standard Time hours.

• Legally authorized to work as an independent contractor in your country of residence.

• **Preferred**

• Experience with Cloudflare Workers or edge computing (highly preferred given the platform architecture).

• Background in e-commerce platforms: Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or similar.

• Familiarity with Snowflake or data warehouse query optimization.

• Experience in media or high-traffic publishing platforms.

• Background in managing or leading a multi-brand or multi-tenant web platform.

• Previous startup experience where you held significant platform responsibilities with a small team.

• Agile/Scrum experience in a distributed team setting.
