This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
β’ Define the product vision and development approach, guiding the engineering perspective on what to create and how to execute it.
β’ Take ownership of the technical strategy for managing simultaneous, real-time interactions to provide a unified experience for the driver.
β’ Develop and launch innovative AI-driven products from inception to completion in a fast-paced, uncertain environment.
β’ Design systems that facilitate coordination across backend and edge boundaries, emphasizing both reliability and real-time responsiveness.
β’ Make architectural decisions amidst evolving requirements, prioritizing scalable foundations over narrowly-focused solutions.
β’ Create standards for reliability, observability, and explainability in systems that operate with real-time decision-making.
β’ Act as the technical cornerstone of the team: review designs, resolve obstacles, and mentor firmware engineers as they transition to full-stack roles.
β’ Introduce external ideas and methodologies for full-stack and AI-enhanced development.
β’ Advocate for Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we expand globally.
β’ Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, including full ownership of products from initial concept through to production.
β’ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
β’ Strong foundational programming skills (Golang, Python, or similar languages).
β’ Experience in developing products utilizing LLMs or AI agent platforms.
β’ Proven experience in designing reliable, distributed backend systems that facilitate multi-step, asynchronous workflows.
β’ Background in designing backend systems that cater to edge, embedded, or resource-constrained clients.
β’ Familiarity with quality and safety considerations for AI-driven systems, including output validation, structured responses, retries/fallbacks, and monitoring.
β’ Experience mentoring engineers as they venture into new technical domains.
β’ Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction without formal authority.
β’ Must be located in and authorized to work in the United States or Canada (fully remote).
