Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +17 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot technical solutions that adhere to engineering standards.

• Provide effort estimates and complete tasks within established timelines.

• Identify and suggest improvements for system and process shortcomings.

• Take full ownership of implementing project components, including new initiatives.

• Resolve complex development challenges.

• Assist in upholding development deadlines and schedules.

• Facilitate task prioritization for junior team members.

• Lead intricate IBM i/RPG development and modernization projects.

• Address production issues through effective troubleshooting.

• Contribute to discussions regarding architecture and design.

• Ensure that solutions are maintainable, secure, supportable, and consistent with MEDHOST engineering standards.

• Mentor and coach less experienced developers.

• Perform additional duties as necessary to meet organizational needs.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master's Degree in a related computer or engineering field with 3 years of experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience.

• Over 7 years of experience in commercial product development.

• Proficient in multiple areas including: RPG & CL, DB2 SQL, SQL Procedure, and User Defined Functions.

• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and SOLID design principles.

• Experience with agile software development in a distributed environment.

• Previous technical responsibility for shipping a software product; consulting experience is not considered.

• Extensive knowledge of unit, system, integration, and performance testing.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of working independently.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing abilities.

• Proven ability to coach and mentor others.

• Familiarity with cross-platform development is recommended.

• Required experience with software version control.

• In-depth experience with RPGLE/RPG IV, CL, Db2 for i, SQL, IBM i application development, JSON, REST integrations, secure development, Agile delivery, and controlled change management.

• Expected to utilize approved AI-enabled development tools.

• Knowledge of the MEDHOST PIF system is a plus.

• Candidates may be requested to give a brief technical presentation during the interview process.
