This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design and construct scalable systems along with a robust infrastructure to identify, mitigate, and resolve risk challenges across Airbnb’s payments platform.
• Safeguard Airbnb communities and businesses from malicious activities and fraudulent individuals.
• Develop and sustain a long-term technological framework with clearly defined APIs that is service-oriented, modular, granular, observable, and efficient.
• Work collaboratively with data scientists, product managers, and cross-functional partners to generate insights, product features, and responses to fraud incidents and risk challenges.
• Establish and maintain integrations with third-party vendors, payment networks, and processors.
• Create and refine strategies for risk detection, mitigation, and resolution as scenarios and business needs evolve.
• Implement continuous monitoring and alert systems to enhance risk-system quality and observability.
• Partner with engineering teams across Airbnb to progress engineering processes and technical foundations.
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience in Payments/Fintech as a backend software engineer.
• Proficient in at least one major programming language, ideally Java, Kotlin, or Python.
• Familiarity with architectural patterns of large, high-scale web applications, encompassing well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
• A strong enthusiasm for delivering products from conception through implementation and experimental A/B testing.
• Commitment to high code quality, automated testing, and engineering best practices.
• Experience or eagerness to collaborate with product, data science, design, and operations teams.
• Knowledge of experimentation and machine learning techniques is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented.
• Capability to make data-driven decisions and articulate technical trade-offs.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, ideally in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in fraud/spam detection and mitigation within the payments sector is an advantage, though not mandatory.
• Must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
