Senior Software Engineer, AI Initiatives

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Oversee design and architectural choices throughout the platform.

• Develop, construct, and sustain backend services utilizing TypeScript on Node.js.

• Take ownership of intricate technical challenges and select architectures that align with business requirements.

• Establish coding standards and engineering methodologies for the team.

• Spearhead the design and implementation of AI-driven features, which includes LLM integration, retrieval augmented generation, and workflows for AI agents.

• Define the technical strategy for the development and assessment of AI functionalities.

• Mentor and train engineers in AI engineering methodologies through pair programming, code reviews, and internal workshops.

• Evaluate code and provide constructive feedback to enhance the quality standards of the team.

• Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to translate business objectives into technical strategies.

• Articulate technical trade-offs and project progress to non-technical stakeholders.

• Participate in technical interviews for engineering positions.

• Lead the transition of the platform from a Python monolith to TypeScript-based services.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of software engineering experience, demonstrated by successfully delivering production systems.

• Strong foundation in computer science principles: data structures, algorithms, and system design.

• Practical experience in production environments using TypeScript on Node.js.

• Proven experience in creating AI-enhanced features, including LLM integration, retrieval augmented generation, prompt evaluation, or AI agents.

• Experience in setting technical direction and providing mentorship to fellow engineers.

• Residing in Portugal, fully remote, with legal authorization to work there.

• Familiarity with Python (preferred but not required).

• Experience with NestJS or a comparable structured Node.js framework (preferred but not required).

• Experience in conducting or contributing to technical interviews (preferred but not required).

• Willingness to undergo a background check in accordance with local laws and regulations.
