Senior Software Engineer, AI Agent Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical vision for the AI Agent Platform team responsible for Hyper’s emergency response solutions.

• Direct the design and operation of real-time voice AI systems that support human 911 telecommunicators at scale.

• Address intricate challenges related to low-latency audio, streaming, telephony, LLM orchestration, and human-in-the-loop AI processes.

• Set engineering benchmarks for reliability, availability, security, and performance.

• Collaborate with product, design, and operations leadership to convert customer and operational challenges into technical strategies.

• Guide engineers through reviews, design feedback, and collaborative pairing.

• Develop and enhance evaluation, testing, and observability frameworks for AI-assisted systems.

• Lead incident response efforts and conduct post-incident reviews; take responsibility for runbook quality and on-call health.

• Act as the engineering representative with public safety clients, partners, and Motorola Solutions stakeholders.

• Utilize AI agents responsibly while ensuring human oversight of quality, judgment, and deployed software.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in real-time communication systems with extensive expertise in Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech, Voice Activity Detection, and architecting LLM, agentic, or RAG systems in production, including evaluations and prompt testing frameworks at scale.

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. on an indefinite basis is mandatory.

• Employer work permit sponsorship is not offered for this role.

• Proven experience in production software engineering with a solid history of technical leadership.

• Background in designing, launching, and managing large, complex systems within high-stakes environments.

• Ability to work comfortably across back-end systems, infrastructure, AI pipelines, and product interfaces.

• Experience or expertise may include production LLM, agentic, or RAG systems; speech technologies; telephony and voice infrastructure; WebRTC, WebSockets, RTP/SRTP, media streaming; real-time, concurrent, or distributed systems; proficiency in Elixir, Go, Python, Rust or similar languages; PostgreSQL; AWS, Azure, or GCP; containerized production settings; and technical leadership in high-trust domains.
