Senior Software Development Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.

📋 Description

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs utilizing Node.js and Java within a microservices architecture.

• Integrate GraphQL APIs, Kafka messaging systems, and CMS/Contentful platforms into existing frameworks.

• Construct and maintain Backend for Frontend (BFF) patterns that support Android, iOS, and Web applications.

• Implement database solutions across various database types, including undertaking database migration efforts.

• Deploy and manage services on AWS infrastructure.

• Create CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Snyk for automation.

• Monitor services using New Relic for performance insights.

• Oversee the entire development lifecycle from requirement gathering to production deployment.

• Write thorough test cases to ensure code quality.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams through Jira to enhance project outcomes.

• Mentor junior engineers and advocate for best practices within the team.

• Evaluate current processes and suggest innovative solutions to enhance performance, scalability, and maintainability.

• Develop Care Paths, a personalized healthcare experience within Aetna Health, assisting members in navigating their health journey.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5 to 7 years of professional experience in software development.

• Over 5 years of experience in server-side development using Node.js.

• More than 3 years of experience in Java development.

• Strong background in microservices architecture, Kafka messaging systems, GraphQL APIs, CMS platforms like Contentful, and SQL/NoSQL databases.

• Familiarity with database migration strategies.

• Experience in building Backend for Frontend (BFF) architectures for Android, iOS, and Web platforms.

• Proficient in AWS cloud services.

• Skilled in using GitHub Actions for CI/CD automation.

• Knowledge of Snyk or equivalent security scanning tools.

• Experience with New Relic or similar observability/monitoring tools.

• Capability to write test cases and handle end-to-end delivery from development to production.

• Experience with Jira for agile project management.

• Proven mentoring and leadership abilities.

• A proactive and inquisitive approach to problem-solving.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar technologies.

• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Knowledge of API security and authentication mechanisms.

• Experience with distributed tracing and observability frameworks.

• Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Experience in healthcare or member-facing digital products.

• A bachelor's degree is preferred, or a high school diploma with 4 years of relevant software development experience.
