This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, develop, and manage backend services that support real-time balances, reservations, and financial activities.
• Take ownership of significant projects from start to finish, encompassing technical design and dependable production operations.
• Address challenges related to real-time accuracy, minimal latency, high availability, write paths, event consumers, and database contention.
• Enhance the architecture by merging services and data models, creating a unified entry point for financial transactions, isolating failure domains, and improving recovery and backfill processes.
• Execute migrations on live financial systems without causing downtime or incorrect client balances.
• Elevate quality and operational excellence through effective design, thorough code reviews, and production ownership.
• Mentor and develop engineers through collaborative work, code reviews, and constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with Product teams and adjacent engineering teams.
• Utilize AI-assisted tools to deliver products faster and with greater safety.
• Over 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• Proven history of building and maintaining critical production systems.
• Strong skills in backend engineering and system design.
• Experience with highly available, low-latency services under actual load conditions.
• Proficiency in Kotlin on the JVM, or significant Java experience / equivalent stack experience.
• Competence in production ownership and making sound incident response decisions.
• Ability to work comfortably in established codebases and improve systems incrementally.
• Strong software quality practices, including creating tested, maintainable, and observable code.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with Product and engineering teams.
• A genuine interest in financial systems and their impact on clients.
• Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development methodologies.
• Experience in fintech, banking, trading, regulated domains, ledger systems, reconciliation, event-driven architecture, Kafka, Flink, GraphQL, Apollo Federation, Kubernetes, Postgres, database performance, or live system migrations is a plus.
