Senior Software Developer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and construct scalable, high-performance backend services using Java (Quarkus/Spring Boot) and Node.js architectures.

• Model and advance complex distributed domains by applying Domain Driven Design (DDD), bounded contexts, and event-driven patterns.

• Create and implement robust asynchronous workflows and decoupled communications utilizing Kafka, AWS SQS, and AWS SNS.

• Take ownership of End-to-End Reliability by defining SLIs/SLOs, implementing observability through Datadog, and leading production incident responses and log analysis.

• Enhance Data Architecture across various layers including relational (Aurora RDS), analytical (Google BigQuery), and caching (Redis).

• Deploy and manage cloud-native services on AWS/Azure using Kubernetes (EKS) while driving CI/CD and progressive rollouts.

• Collaborate and mentor within cross-functional Agile teams (Product, Mobile, QE, Data) to promote engineering excellence and continuous delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building, operating, and optimizing production-grade backend services at scale in Agile environments.

• Proven expertise in Java (Quarkus/Spring Boot); additional backend skills in Node.js are highly regarded.

• In-depth knowledge of pub/sub patterns, idempotency, eventual consistency, and sagas with Kafka, SQS, and SNS.

• Significant hands-on experience with schema design, query optimization, and migrations across Relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL), NoSQL, and Redis caching.

• Strong production experience deploying to AWS and/or Azure with containerized workloads operating on Kubernetes (EKS).

• Comprehensive knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation), GitOps, and robust automated testing (K6/Gatling/JMeter).

• Solid foundation in RESTful API design (with gRPC/GraphQL/AsyncAPI exposure) and extensive APM/distributed tracing using Datadog.

• Practical experience in enhancing productivity with innovative tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code.
