This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.
• Engage in Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, providing insights and updates to ensure team cohesion.
• Design and develop robust backend and frontend functionalities for our C2MS insurance platform utilizing PHP, Laravel, Filament, and Vue.js, while integrating financial and accounting systems.
• Construct and maintain insurance-specific financial systems, encompassing premium billing, commission calculations, claims settlements, payment processing, and reconciliation workflows.
• Develop insurance accounting capabilities that include integration with the general ledger, managing accounts payable/receivable for premiums and claims, and generating financial reports for regulatory compliance (FCA, Lloyd's standards), along with handling multiple currencies.
• Create and maintain automated underwriting rules, rating engines, and intricate financial calculations pertinent to insurance products (premiums, deductibles, loadings, discounts, endorsements).
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) automated tests to ensure code quality and reliability, focusing on financial accuracy, premium calculations, and data integrity in insurance transactions.
• Collaborate with QA engineers, business analysts, and product owners to grasp requirements and implement user-focused features.
• Diagnose and resolve bugs, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities in existing applications.
• Adhere to best practices for version control (Git flows), CI/CD pipelines, and static code analysis utilizing tools such as Qodana, PHPStan, Trivy, and Composer/NPM audit.
• Write efficient and optimized SQL queries using MySQL and contribute to database schema design and performance enhancements, insurance policy data models, claims management systems, financial transaction processing, audit trails, and high-volume premium calculations.
• Collaborate with APIs and third-party integrations, including payment gateways, data enrichment providers (e.g., Loqate for address verification), ACORD messaging standards, and partner systems for risk assessment and distribution.
• Operate within an Agile environment and actively participate in the continuous enhancement of development practices and team workflows.
• Maintain documentation for systems, APIs, and modules to ensure long-term maintainability and facilitate team knowledge sharing.
• Mentor and guide junior developers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing to nurture growth and uphold high development standards.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools (coding copilots, test generation, automated refactoring) to expedite delivery while preserving the accuracy standards essential in financial and insurance systems.
• Adopt agentic development practices—scoping and delegating multi-step coding, testing, and refactoring tasks to AI coding agents that will plan and execute across the codebase, with oversight, review, and validation of their output instead of manually authoring each line of code.
• Exercise sound engineering judgment on where agentic autonomy is suitable and where human verification is imperative, especially in workflows sensitive to financial and audit standards.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of AI-powered features within the C2MS platform, including LLM integrations, retrieval-augmented workflows, and intelligent document or data processing for underwriting, claims, and policy management.
• Critically assess AI-generated code, outputs, and calculations with the same rigor applied to any other source, particularly in premium calculations, regulatory reporting, and audit-sensitive workflows where accuracy is non-negotiable.
• Implement responsible AI practices in FinTech environments, including data-handling boundaries, prompt and context design, model selection, and validation of outputs in accordance with GDPR, FCA, and Lloyd's market requirements.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a software developer in a production setting, with at least 2 years working on insurance software, FinTech applications, accounting systems, or financial services platforms.
• Strong proficiency in PHP and JavaScript, with experience in modern frameworks such as Laravel, Filament, and Vue.js.
• Familiarity with core accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes as they pertain to insurance operations.
• Experience with payment gateway integrations, financial APIs, or complex financial calculation engines.
• Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL) and best practices for crafting efficient queries.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, Git version control, and automated testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of static code analysis tools and secure development practices, with an understanding of security standards relevant to financial and insurance systems (ISO 27001, SOC 2).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail, essential for handling insurance rating calculations, premium computations, and monetary precision.
• Experience working in Scrum or other Agile teams is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Practical experience utilizing AI coding assistants and agentic coding workflows in a production engineering context, and/or integrating LLMs or ML services into customer-facing applications—preferably in a regulated, financial, or insurance domain.
