Senior Settlement & Trading Operations Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take charge of daily settlement and trading functions.

• Supervise the complete processing of crypto and fiat transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, internal transfers, and sweeps, ensuring everything settles accurately within its designated timeframe.

• When issues arise, you are the one who investigates the cause and leads the resolution efforts.

• Execute reconciliations that truly align accounts.

• Conduct multi-faceted checks across internal ledgers, bank and custodian statements, and partner float files.

• Identify discrepancies, clarify the underlying reasons for each inconsistency, and drive towards achieving precise figures instead of approximate ones.

• Oversee the trade lifecycle. Ensure that trading activities proceed smoothly from execution to settlement, and manage occasional exceptions—such as corrections or adjustments—safely and reliably as they occur.

• Investigate issues thoroughly. Follow up on failed transfers, mismatched balances, and stalled flows—utilizing SQL against production tables and analyzing distributed transaction logs to uncover the root causes.

• Document your findings in runbooks to continuously enhance the team's procedures and readiness as we grow.

• Automate repetitive tasks. Develop and maintain Python scripts for reconciliations, participant liquidations, and other recurring activities, allowing the team to minimize manual efforts and expedite workflows.

• Assist with partner go-lives and asset listings. Conduct stress tests on new features and asset listings in lower environments, validate go-live procedures with partners, and provide operational feedback to Product and Engineering that can only be gathered through actual system operation.

• Engage with AI tools. We utilize LLMs daily for drafting and debugging scripts, identifying anomalies in settlement data, and accelerating documentation processes.

• Monitor operational health. Create and sustain dashboards and data models that demonstrate transaction trends, liquidity, and operational performance to leadership—highlighting potential issues before they escalate into incidents.

• Serve as a technical liaison for institutional partners. Assist in resolving complex transaction inquiries and API integration questions, translating between the partner's experience and the actual operations of our systems.

• Participate in the team's on-call rotation and share responsibility for after-hours support.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience in financial operations, settlement, payments, or a similar technical back-office role, including some experience in mentoring or leadership.

• Experience with crypto, stablecoins, or digital assets is advantageous.

• Proficient in Python. Capable of independently writing, debugging, and maintaining scripts, including data manipulation, error handling, and REST API integration.

• Strong SQL skills. Comfortable with multi-table joins, subqueries, CTEs, and window functions on large datasets.

• Familiar with AI tools. Regularly utilize AI-assisted technologies (such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar) for coding, problem investigation, and documentation production.

• Fluency in APIs. Solid grasp of API design and experience using tools like Postman with production financial systems.

• Attention to detail. Proven experience in environments where errors have financial implications, demonstrating disciplined habits to avoid them.

• Effective communication. Ability to articulate technical issues clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
