This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine, +3 more countries.
• Design, develop, and sustain backend services utilizing Scala 3 and Cats Effect.
• Assist in defining the architecture and technical vision for a new FinTech product.
• Create dependable workflows for financial operations, domain events, and data projections.
• Implement Event Sourcing, CQRS, and Domain-Driven Design methodologies in production systems.
• Develop data and storage solutions with PostgreSQL, Redis, and MinIO.
• Enhance system performance, resilience, observability, and maintainability.
• Write automated tests and uphold high engineering standards across the codebase.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical feedback, and support sound implementation decisions.
• Investigate production issues and deliver sustainable resolutions.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and support of the existing platform.
• Collaborate closely within a distributed four-person engineering team and contribute to technical and product decisions.
• Strong professional backend development experience at a senior level.
• Advanced commercial experience with Scala, preferably including Scala 3.
• Practical knowledge of functional programming and effect systems like Cats Effect.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL and production-grade data modeling.
• Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and concurrency.
• Experience in designing maintainable backend services and contributing to architectural decisions.
• Confident approach to automated testing, code review, and performance optimization.
• Eligibility to work or provide services and receive payments legally within the EU, subject to the employer’s compliance and contracting requirements.
• Experience in FinTech, payments, banking, or other transaction-heavy systems.
• Hands-on knowledge of Event Sourcing, CQRS, or Domain-Driven Design.
• Experience with Redis and S3-compatible object storage solutions like MinIO.
• Familiarity with financial ledgers, transaction processing, event projections, or reconciliation.
• Strong ownership of technical decisions and delivery outcomes.
• Clear communication skills within a small, distributed engineering team.
• Structured thinking when engaging with complex financial domains.
• Pragmatic judgment when balancing architecture, delivery speed, and maintainability.
• Ability to review solutions constructively and articulate technical trade-offs.
• Fully remote work from an eligible European location.
