
Senior Reliability Engineer – Embedded Products

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +3 more countries.
• Develop and implement reliability initiatives throughout the lifecycle of essential grid automation embedded and software products.
• Direct cross-functional teams in utilizing reliability engineering methods to guarantee system resilience, adherence to regulations, and sustained performance in the field.
• Execute reliability modeling and statistical analyses to forecast field performance and aid in design decisions.
• Create and carry out reliability test plans for hardware and software, which include Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), environmental, and stress testing.
• Lead and conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Root Cause Analysis for hardware and software failure incidents.
• Partner with product design, systems engineering, and software teams to integrate Design for Reliability from conception to deployment.
• Examine field data from installed devices to detect systemic issues and propose corrective and preventive measures.
• Collaborate with utilities and customers on grid asset performance initiatives and grid modernization projects.
• Establish and uphold reliability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Failure In Time (FIT) rate, and availability.
• Propel predictive and condition-based maintenance strategies through remote diagnostics, SCADA systems, and sensor data.
• Coordinate with the Innovation Office and Applications team regarding reliability priorities, leadership in standards, and technology strategy.
• Keep track of regulatory compliance requirements impacting utility asset reliability and cybersecurity.
• Offer coaching, training, and support to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant experience in reliability, systems, or product engineering within the energy or utility sector.
• Knowledge of protection and control systems, grid-edge devices, substation automation, and utility-grade software solutions.
• Practical experience with reliability engineering tools and standards, such as ReliaSoft, ISO 9001/55000, and IEC 61025.
• Understanding of Transmission and Distribution (T&D) communications protocols and standards, including IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and IEEE C37.118.
• Proficiency in data analysis platforms, such as Python, R, Minitab, and Power BI.
• Awareness of grid reliability challenges in T&D environments.
• Familiarity with model-based design and HIL testing, including Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS), PSCAD, or Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP).
• Experience working directly with T&D utilities, assisting in product deployments, failure investigations, or asset strategies.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity risks and reliability considerations for critical infrastructure.
• A Master’s degree in Reliability or Systems Engineering is preferred.
• Certification as a Reliability Engineer (CRE) or an equivalent professional certification is preferred.
