This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Conduct testing and routine upkeep of power equipment in transmission and distribution substations.
• Evaluate electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relaying systems.
• Assess pilot channel devices, controls, and communication systems.
• Interpret single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, panel wiring layouts, and panel configuration drawings.
• Assist in drafting procedures and test plans for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Read and confirm voltage and current inputs to relays.
• Validate local and SCADA metering, alarms, and trip functionalities.
• Calibrate relays and execute local and SCADA trip testing.
• Diagnose and rectify issues with substation relaying and control systems.
• Commission new substations alongside related power, relaying, pilot channel, controls, and communication devices.
• Strategize, organize, and complete testing activities promptly and without service disruptions.
• Provide technical support for projects to field service teams.
• Travel for three weeks to client locations, with a paid long weekend return approximately every three days of travel.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or an Associate/AET degree.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, panel and equipment verification, relay calibration, and maintenance of substation relaying and control systems.
• Preference for a degree focused on power systems.
• Desirable experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, and installation/testing of SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment.
• Familiarity with three-phase power systems and power system protection and control strategies.
• Understanding of testing equipment and associated software.
• Competence in the use of test equipment, tools, and wiring.
• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.
• Basic testing skills required to perform the specified duties.
• Basic proficiency in PC usage.
• Capability to rapidly learn and implement testing procedures for various substation equipment types.
• Strong communication skills with diverse groups.
• Willingness to learn and implement client-specific switching protocols and safety measures.
• Ability to reference and complete tasks as detailed in relevant specifications.
• Capacity to perform regular fieldwork both indoors and outdoors.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Proficient in English communication, including reading and writing.
