This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment.

• Maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair intricate control systems and protective relay systems.

• Collaborate with substation and electric utility protection systems.

• Engage with station automation and SCADA systems.

• Interpret the scope of work at the project level.

• Plan commissioning processes and resource allocation.

• Provide leadership to the team for executing testing activities efficiently, punctually, without service interruptions, and in alignment with safety standards.

• Analyze substation drawings, including single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.

• Develop procedures and test plans to support maintenance and construction efforts.

• Create isolation plans and functional guidelines.

• Read and verify voltage and current inputs to relays.

• Confirm local and SCADA metering and alarms.

• Calibrate relays and conduct local and SCADA trip testing.

• Verify function switches.

• Diagnose and repair substation relaying and control equipment.

• Oversee the commissioning of new substations, power equipment, relaying, pilot channel equipment, controls, and communications equipment.

• Offer technical support for projects to Field Service personnel.

• Provide technical mentorship to junior field service staff.

• Act as a subject matter expert in protective relaying within the field.

• Serve as the technical lead for smaller project teams.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or an Associate/AET degree, preferably with a focus on power systems.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, and testing and repair of substation relaying and control systems.

• Desirable experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, or SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing.

• Strong knowledge of three-phase power systems and power system protection and control schemes.

• Familiarity with test equipment and test equipment software.

• Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools, and wiring.

• Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.

• Basic testing skills to execute the listed duties.

• Fundamental PC skills.

• Capacity to quickly learn and implement testing procedures for various types of substation equipment.

• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with diverse groups.

• Ability to understand and apply client-specific switching procedures and safety measures.

• Capability to reference and complete assignments as specified in relevant specifications.

• Willingness to perform regular field work both indoors and outdoors.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

• Proficient in English communication, including reading and writing, due to the necessity of understanding safety-related materials, documentation, and client interactions.
