This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +30 more states.
• Manage safety strategies and risk governance across various fulfillment centers with distinct operational profiles, including automated facilities, robotics-enabled operations, regulated inventory environments, and innovative business models.
• Formulate and implement regional safety strategies by leveraging leading and lagging indicators, risk assessments, behavioral observations, near-miss trends, automation performance data, and operational metrics to proactively avert incidents.
• Assess the safety implications of new technologies, automation systems, robotic deployments, facility expansions, and operational process modifications prior to their implementation.
• Oversee regional risk assessments and ensure that site-specific controls are in place for diverse merchant profiles, including hazardous materials, batteries, food and beverage, cosmetics, print-on-demand operations, and other regulated inventory categories.
• Conduct investigations into serious incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective action programs while fostering accountability among operational leadership teams.
• Design and assist in the implementation of effective safety, health, environmental, and regulatory training strategies for associates.
• Provide strategic advice to Operations leadership on staffing models, workflow design, equipment utilization, and process adjustments to ensure safe scaling of business operations.
• Establish and uphold regional safety governance processes, act as the designated regional safety authority, and promote accountability for corrective actions, risk mitigation, escalation management, and executive reporting.
• Function as the regional expert on robotics safety, machine guarding, automation risk assessments, lockout/tagout procedures, and human-machine interaction controls.
• Monitor and analyze safety trends across the network, identify emerging risks, and track regulatory developments while recommending strategic investments and risk reduction initiatives to executive leadership.
• Collaborate with Partner Operations and third-party fulfillment partners to maintain consistent safety standards, risk controls, and regulatory compliance throughout the broader fulfillment network.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required.
• Willingness to travel 50% of the time.
• Over 10 years of progressive safety leadership experience, encompassing multi-site distribution, fulfillment, manufacturing, automation, or logistics environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, ARM, HACCP, PCQI, or equivalent safety and risk management credentials are strongly preferred.
• Proven track record in building and leading safety management systems across geographically diverse operations with varying risk profiles and operational complexities.
• Experience leading serious incident investigations involving significant injury risk, regulatory exposure, or operational disruptions.
• Familiarity with highly automated distribution, robotics, or advanced material handling environments.
• Skills in influencing senior operational leaders and driving cultural change across multiple sites.
• Strong understanding of risk management methodologies, human factors, ergonomics, machine safety, and operational excellence principles.
• Experience supporting complex fulfillment environments with dangerous goods, food safety, regulated products, or specialized operational processes.
• Knowledge of DOT compliance management.
• Expertise in environmental compliance regarding stormwater, spill prevention, and disposal of solid and hazardous waste.
• Proficiency in utilizing safety management systems, data analytics tools, incident management platforms, and operational reporting systems to facilitate risk-based decision-making.
• Distribution Center or Manufacturing SHE experience with a mix of exempt and non-exempt employees at multiple sites of at least 250 individuals.
• Background in applying continuous improvement, operational excellence, and risk reduction methodologies in rapidly expanding fulfillment or distribution settings.
• Adaptability to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including comfort in engaging with site leaders.
• Capability to develop and implement departmental goals and strategies.
• Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to solve problems.
