Senior QA Automation Engineer

Posted Jul 28

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the end-to-end (E2E) testing suite. Design, build, and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright (TypeScript) that encompass our essential user journeys across various products.

• Fill in coverage gaps and prioritize testing needs. Review existing tests, pinpoint the highest-risk areas, and systematically address these gaps.

• Eliminate test instability. Manage the reliability of the test suite from start to finish: investigate flaky tests, implement quarantine and retry protocols, oversee test data and environment stability, and maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio so that a failing build has significant implications.

• Influence CI integration. Collaborate with our DevOps engineer to determine the optimal execution of tests within the pipeline, including execution frequency, parallelization, runtime budgets, and merge/deploy gating strategies.

• Test at the appropriate layer. Assess whether a check should occur at the API or integration layer instead of the browser, and organize the test suite to ensure it remains efficient as it expands.

• Empower the team. Mentor developers in writing effective Playwright tests, review test code, and create patterns, utilities, and documentation to facilitate scalable test authorship beyond your contributions.

• Report on quality metrics. Share responsibility for quality metrics such as test coverage of critical paths, suite reliability, and defect escape rates, and communicate trends to engineering leadership.

• Utilize modern tools. Take advantage of AI-assisted development (we utilize Claude Code across engineering) and the latest Playwright tools to enhance test authoring and maintenance.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in quality engineering, test automation, or software engineering, with a strong emphasis on automation.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Playwright. You have not only built but also maintained significant E2E suites, rather than merely contributing tests to an existing one.

• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript. You write test code that you would be confident deploying to production.

• Familiarity with CI/CD processes. Experience in integrating and operating test suites within pipelines (such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar), including parallel execution and selective execution strategies.

• Proven ability to resolve test flakiness. You can provide concrete examples of how you diagnosed and eliminated unreliable tests at scale.

• Demonstrated independence and ownership. You can transform a vague directive ("our test coverage needs improvement") into a prioritized plan that you drive to completion.

• Natural teaching abilities. You have mentored engineers, conducted code reviews, or otherwise enhanced a team’s testing standards.

• Nice to Have:

• Experience with API-layer test automation (REST, contract testing).

• Background in defining quality metrics (defect escape rate, coverage models) and reporting them to leadership.

• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails applications (our primary application stack - you may not write much Ruby, but you'll be testing Rails apps).

• Experience in test data management, environment provisioning, or Docker-based test infrastructure.

• Experience using AI-assisted tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Playwright codegen/MCP) in a testing workflow.

🏝️ Benefits

• Meaningful insurance and benefit options, including two medical plans to choose from, complete coverage of employee dental and vision insurance premiums, HSA seed funding, company-paid short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), life insurance, telemedicine services, and a wellness benefit of $400 per year.

• Policies that promote a healthy work/life balance, which include Flexible PTO, 14 paid company holidays, paid parental leave, and days dedicated to community service.

• A 401(k) plan with a 4% company match and immediate vesting.

• A fully remote work culture complemented by a monthly remote work reimbursement ($600 per year) to support our distributed team and an annual in-person company kickoff event.

• Engaging challenges to tackle alongside a dedicated and supportive team that is invested in your growth and development.

• A wonderfully unique culture that encourages you to bring your authentic self to work.
