Senior Programmer, Artificial Intelligence Support

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, create, modify, test, and implement web-based applications, client-server applications, and OS-level automation scripts that facilitate VA clinical program workflows related to testosterone screening and the expansion of treatment options.

• Integrate and deploy Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software solutions into the current VA IT infrastructure, ensuring compatibility, adherence to security protocols, and alignment with VA enterprise standards.

• Create and manage SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models within Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) to support application features, reporting, and clinical data analysis.

• Work closely with clinical users, program stakeholders, and project managers to identify system requirements, draft program specifications, and convert business needs into technical solutions utilizing an established Systems Development Methodology (SDM).

• Document testing conditions, generate test data sets, execute testing plans, and analyze outcomes to validate application performance.

• Coordinate system testing efforts and support clinical end users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

• Investigate and assess upcoming technologies and AI-driven methods pertinent to clinical decision support and healthcare data management.

• Develop and sustain work plans, project documentation, and data and process models throughout the software development lifecycle.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software development, with practical experience in web-based applications, client-server architecture, and process automation scripting.

• A Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field is required.

• Previous experience supporting IT programs for federal agencies, particularly within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or another federal healthcare setting, is highly desired.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA network access credential (PIV/CAC) and successfully pass a VA background investigation (MBI or equivalent) prior to employment.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States; this position does not provide visa sponsorship.

• Proven expertise in SQL and RDBMS application development, COTS software integration, and employing a formal Systems Development Methodology (SDM) for planning, coding, and deploying enterprise applications.

• Experience with VA electronic health record systems, such as VistA, CPRS, and/or Cerner/Oracle Health, is strongly preferred.

• Knowledge of VA IT security frameworks, including experience with the VA's Authority to Operate (ATO) process or completion of VA Privacy and Information Security training.

• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts or tools used in a clinical or healthcare data environment, including predictive modeling, clinical decision support, or natural language processing of EHR data.

• Understanding of HL7, FHIR, or other healthcare interoperability standards relevant for integrating clinical data systems.

• Experience in developing data and process models to support federal health program reporting, analytics, or quality improvement efforts.
