• Design, initiate, and manage comprehensive data workflows, from the ingestion of raw audio to the creation of production-ready datasets.
• Develop and enhance labeling specifications, style guides, and instructional materials for global annotation teams.
• Recognize opportunities for improved tooling, automation, and optimization of workflows, and take the lead in their implementation.
• Convert product objectives and model requirements into strategies for data creation, determining what to develop, the methods to utilize, and the significance for product impact.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle for your areas of responsibility — encompassing customer expectations, data acquisition, preparation, scaling, provenance, and evaluation — and be accountable for the model outcomes, not merely the data transfer.
• Prototype and implement data tools and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Research and Engineering teams to ensure data collection aligns with model training architecture and the downstream effects on products.
• Monitor advancements in speech AI research and changing market use cases to guide labeling methodologies and data design priorities.
• Work alongside QA and Evaluation leads to produce high-quality, human-in-the-loop datasets and benchmarks.
• Manage and mentor data vendors, freelancers, and potentially internal individual contributors as the team expands.
• Track throughput, data quality, and vendor performance.
• Propel continuous enhancements in speed, cost-effectiveness, and quality across all data operations.
• Curate and refine datasets to meet specific product objectives, linguistic coverage, or research hypotheses.
• Proven experience managing data, machine learning, or operational programs from start to finish in program/project or product management.
• Proficiency in working directly with technical teams; capable of discussing data quality, evaluation, and model impact.
• Systems thinking ability, understanding how decisions influence the entire system, reasoning from fundamentals instead of defaulting to conventions, and designing solutions that remain effective as they scale.
• A proven record of prioritizing tasks under constraints — determining what to fund, what to eliminate, and how to sequence tasks.
• Strong operational instincts: you scope, sequence, assign, and execute tasks, ensuring progress is not hindered by unclear next steps.
• Demonstrated ability to design and establish scalable processes, not just manage existing ones.
• Direct experience with speech/audio, ASR, or TTS data, along with the specific nuances of multilingual, code-switched, low-resource, or domain-specific data.
• Familiarity with active-learning or data-selection methodologies.
• Experience in startup environments or situations with high ambiguity.
• Health insurance
• Stock options
• Flexible work arrangements
• Opportunities for professional development
