This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take charge of intricate product experiences from the initial discovery phase to final delivery for a new AI-driven decision-support system.
• Conduct structured discovery sessions with end users through interviews, shadowing, and observing workflows.
• Create current-state and future-state workflow diagrams.
• Convert mission and operational requirements into effective interaction designs.
• Develop an interactive clickable prototype that includes prioritized queues, enrichment panels, record history, and dashboards.
• Design the user workspace comprehensively, incorporating queues, unified record views, evidence, enrichment panels, decision flows, record history, trend views, and operational dashboards.
• Contribute to and utilize a reusable design system.
• Focus on designing for high-volume, repetitive tasks with an emphasis on keyboard efficiency, scannability, minimal context switching, and low error rates.
• Create accessible interfaces that comply with Section 508 and WCAG standards.
• Present model recommendations, confidence levels, and supporting evidence.
• Make uncertainty and evidence gaps apparent.
• Design views for review, override, audit, and traceability.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams from problem identification through to the product launch.
• Work closely with front-end engineers to enhance the design handoff process.
• Review builds to maintain quality standards throughout implementation.
• Articulate design rationale to stakeholders.
• Iterate designs based on user feedback, analytics, and acceptance testing findings.
• Assist in creating training and adoption materials.
• Collaborate with the existing designer.
• Establish repeatable research methodologies, reusable design patterns, and streamlined engineering handoffs.
• Enhance design quality through review and collaborative efforts.
• Over 8 years of experience in product or UX design.
• A portfolio showcasing shipped, complex applications utilized by individuals in real-world scenarios.
• Complete ownership of a comparable system, from discovery to a deployed and adopted interface.
• Capability to set design direction as the leading designer without higher-level design leadership.
• A well-established discovery and delivery methodology that can be immediately adapted.
• Proven expertise in designing data-rich, workflow-intensive enterprise interfaces, including role-based views, dashboards, data visualizations, queues, and case or record views.
• Strong visual craftsmanship in layout, hierarchy, and typography.
• Direct experience in user research, including user interviews and observations.
• Proficient in transforming ambiguous challenges into clear, usable solutions while balancing user, business, and technical requirements.
• Strong prototyping skills in Figma or similar tools.
• Knowledge of information architecture and design system principles.
• Comfortable designing for expert users and navigating unfamiliar domains.
• Ability to work efficiently with time-constrained subject matter experts.
• Fluency in accessibility standards including Section 508 and WCAG.
• Capable of developing design practices in the absence of an established framework.
• Active participant in design; this role is not focused on design management.
• Comfortable working within a cross-functional agile product team.
• US Citizenship is required.
• Must possess an active US Top Secret clearance.
• Eligibility for CAC from the outset.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% to customer locations, DEFCON AI HQ, and vendor sites.
• Preferred experience includes government-user, controlled-environment, review-queue, triage, AI/model-output, government accessibility, fixed-deliverable, front-end, enterprise/regulated-product, and design-system experience.
