This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Develop software solutions for transit agency personnel, guiding the entire product lifecycle from initial discovery and research to prototyping and high-fidelity design.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define product strategy by visualizing challenges and potential solutions.
• Organize and conduct user research — including interviews, usability testing, and synthesis — and present findings in impactful ways that influence decision-making.
• Consider the real-world context of your work, taking into account the operational workflows and service outcomes that relate to the software.
• Collaborate with engineering during the development phase, serving as a quality assurance checkpoint between what is built and the actual needs of users.
• Contribute to the evolution of Swiftly's design system, enhancing the design foundation of the team over time.
• Over 8 years of experience in product design, demonstrating a history of leading complex products from initial concept to final execution.
• Proficient in utilizing AI tools to create prototypes with production-level code, allowing for rapid testing of ideas with high fidelity — while also paying close attention to detail when necessary.
• Familiarity with complex areas: operational software, data-rich interfaces, or products where comprehension of underlying logic is integral to the design process. Comfort with automation and trigger-based systems is highly regarded.
• Proficient in data visualization and analytical user experience: dashboards, reporting, and exploratory analysis. A keen interest in designing for open-ended, user-driven outcomes — including AI-assisted or prompt-to-output paradigms — is valuable, even without direct experience.
• A strong understanding of how user flows interconnect across a product area and the real-world implications of software decisions. Familiarity with service design methods (like blueprints and journey mapping) is beneficial, emphasizing coherence across touchpoints and teams.
• Excellent user research capabilities: knowing which methods to apply, conducting effective interviews, and translating findings into actionable decisions rather than mere documentation.
• You guide the direction of projects, not just execute tasks. You help define problems, establish success criteria with product and engineering teams, and convert research into strategies that impact adjacent flows and the design system.
• You elevate the capabilities of your fellow designers through direct, constructive feedback and mentorship, enhancing the overall quality of work around you — not just your own.
• You effectively communicate and justify design choices to engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, and are open to revising your stance when presented with new evidence.
