Senior Product Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create software solutions for transit agency personnel throughout the entire product lifecycle, ranging from initial discovery and research to prototypes and high-fidelity designs.

• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define product strategy by visualizing challenges and potential solutions.

• Organize and conduct user research, including interviews, usability testing, and synthesis, and present findings in impactful ways that influence decision-making.

• Design with an understanding of the real-world context where your work will be implemented, focusing on operational workflows and service outcomes related to the software.

• Work closely with engineering during the development phase, serving as a quality assurance checkpoint between what is built and the actual needs of users.

• Contribute to Swiftly's design system and assist in enhancing the team's design foundation over time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of product design experience, demonstrating a history of guiding complex products from concept to completion.

• Proficient in using AI tools to prototype with production-level code, enabling rapid testing of ideas at real fidelity, while ensuring meticulous attention to detail when necessary.

• Experience in intricate domains such as operational software, data-rich interfaces, or products where comprehending the underlying logic is integral to the design process. Familiarity with automation and trigger-based systems is a significant advantage.

• Comfortable with data visualization and analytical user experiences, including dashboards, reporting, and exploratory analysis. A keen interest in designing user-driven outputs, such as AI-assisted or prompt-to-output paradigms, is valuable, even without direct experience.

• A strong understanding of how workflows integrate within a product area and how software choices impact real-world scenarios. Knowledge of service design techniques (like blueprints and journey mapping) is beneficial; coherence among touchpoints and teams is essential.

• Excellent user research capabilities: knowing which methods to apply, conducting effective interviews, and transforming findings into actionable decisions rather than mere documentation.

• You influence direction, not just implement tasks. You assist in defining problems, establish success criteria with product and engineering teams, and convert research insights into strategies that enhance adjacent workflows and the design system.

• You elevate fellow designers through specific, constructive feedback and mentorship, improving the overall quality of work around you, not just your own output.

• You effectively communicate and defend design choices to engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, demonstrating adaptability when new evidence presents itself.
