Senior Product Design Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Work collaboratively with the Design Functional Team to uphold a superior level of craftsmanship across Duck.ai, native applications, search functionalities, and other products.

• Prototype, define, and integrate product designs directly into the codebase.

• Collaborate as an equal partner with front-end engineers to ensure that the final execution aligns with design quality standards.

• Bridge the gap between the intended designs and the products that are delivered.

• Contribute to the growth and development of DuckDuckGo’s design engineering role and discipline as its second Design Engineer.

• Identify and address product issues within current offerings.

• Lead the charge in creating privacy-focused solutions as DuckDuckGo enhances the privacy layer for the Internet.

• Investigate and test concepts aimed at improving user experience and expanding audience appeal.

• Independently manage high-impact projects that scale to millions of users.

• Analyze ambiguous challenges, propose effective solutions, and implement success criteria.

• Participate in product-related design decisions across various projects.

• Foster transparent collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders and contributors.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in product design and/or design engineering roles.

• At least 2 years in senior-level design positions with prominent global consumer brands.

• Proven ability to convey visual and interaction suggestions through high-quality mockups, prototypes, and comprehensive rationale.

• Comfortable collaborating with engineers as an equal partner, discussing decisions during PR reviews, and contributing code.

• Experience in defining requirements and developing tools that enhance design and engineering workflows.

• Skilled in maintaining the quality and consistency of design systems across both design and code.

• Capable of prototyping in code to meet production standards.

• Familiarity with semantic markup and accessibility considerations.

• Proficiency in motion and interaction implementation, including easing curves, spring physics, and interruptible transitions.

• Experience in structuring design systems through token layering and distinguishing between primitive and semantic naming.

• Competency in managing projects from initial proposal through execution and release.

• Experience applying proactive solutions to project management and design execution workflows.

• Ability to draft creative briefs that outline project goals, rationale, and success metrics.

• Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research and experimentation.

• Capable of instrumenting work for measurement purposes.

• Ability to take initiative and advance ideas with both urgency and discretion.

• Required to attend meetings on camera via video conferencing.

• Must successfully pass a background check.
