Senior Principal Software Engineer – Core Systems & Libraries

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the architecture and design of essential software components, libraries, and tools in accordance with avionics system requirements.

• Guide the technical direction and execution of development and verification processes for safety-critical DO-178 software.

• Establish and oversee software requirements, including decomposition and traceability across intricate systems.

• Create and validate software utilizing modern C++ and principles of object-oriented design.

• Take ownership of and generate DO-178 certification artifacts, encompassing DAL-A deliverables.

• Lead and assist in certification efforts, which includes collaboration with clients and regulatory bodies.

• Perform and contribute to peer reviews throughout the software lifecycle.

• Work collaboratively with engineering teams, program leadership, and clients to ensure technical solutions meet program goals.

• Travel domestically and internationally as necessary, not exceeding 10%.

• Contribute to the software foundations that support modern aircraft, including scalable and certifiable avionics platforms.

• Aid in open architecture initiatives and system-level design for aerospace technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related discipline with at least 7 years of experience.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and developing software architecture, libraries, or platform-level components within an aerospace or safety-critical environment.

• Proven capability to lead the technical execution of projects, including engaging with customers and presenting to senior stakeholders.

• Practical experience in supporting DO-178 software development and certification activities, including managing requirements, verification, or certification artifacts.

• Experience collaborating across cross-functional engineering and program teams to provide complex, integrated solutions.

• Familiarity with C++ and VxWorks is preferred.

• Experience in writing High-Level and Low-Level Requirements is preferred.

• Experience in developing test cases and automated test procedures is preferred.

• Knowledge of civil certification DO-178 – DAL A is preferred.

• Experience with Flight Management Systems, software, aircraft applications, or middleware is preferred.

• Understanding of revision control concepts and tools such as Git, Subversion, and JIRA is preferred.

• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally under 10%.
