Senior PLC/SCADA Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Act as the technical expert for automation in data centers and monitoring systems for electrical power.

• Spearhead the design of Ignition-based SCADA platforms for data centers, integrating Rockwell PLCs, power monitoring devices, and third-party subsystems.

• Develop and uphold PLC applications for chiller managers, chiller lineup controllers, pumping systems, thermal energy storage, HVAC, and process cooling.

• Establish reusable software standards, Add-On Instructions, and programming templates.

• Create PLC documentation, including functional descriptions and implementations of sequence-of-operation.

• Design supervisory applications utilizing Ignition SCADA.

• Configure OPC UA communications, UDT libraries, tag structures, alarm strategies, historical data collection, and dashboards.

• Offer support for enterprise-scale SCADA deployment in critical infrastructure settings.

• Design and troubleshoot industrial Ethernet networks and manage industrial communications configuration.

• Integrate chillers, VFDs, power monitoring devices, UPS systems, generators, CRAHs, CDUs, and metering systems.

• Formulate mechanical and electrical system integration strategies.

• Collaborate with vendors to verify communications and operational sequences.

• Execute point mapping, protocol validation, and interface testing.

• Address cybersecurity and OT network requirements.

• Assist in FAT, SAT, IST, and FPT activities.

• Diagnose control, network, and field device issues during startup and commissioning.

• Develop commissioning procedures and create checkout documentation.

• Provide support to field technicians and commissioning providers.

• Guide entry-level and mid-level engineers through mentoring.

• Engage in design and software quality reviews.

• Identify project risks and propose mitigation strategies.

• Engage in customer-facing technical discussions and design workshops.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with over 4 years of experience in HVAC/Building Automation, or an Associate Degree with over 6 years, or a High School Diploma/GED with over 8 years.

• Minimum of 4 years in designing and supporting SCADA and control systems in operational facilities.

• At least 4 years of experience with Rockwell Automation PLCs, particularly on ControlLogix and CompactLogix platforms.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

• Familiarity with Ignition SCADA at scale.

• Experience with UDT-driven designs, alarm pipelines and strategies, gateway configuration, redundancy, and performance optimization.

• Background in data centers or mission-critical infrastructure.

• Knowledge of central utility plants, electrical power distribution and monitoring, as well as redundant system architectures.

• Solid understanding of industrial Ethernet and OT networking.

• Experience in integrating third-party electrical devices.

• Proficiency with chillers, CRACS/CRAHS, power quality meters, breakers, UPS, and generators.

• Experience in designing and implementing HVAC/Building Automation control systems.

• Strong expertise in Rockwell Automation, including Studio 5000, ControlLogix, and CompactLogix.

• Knowledge of PLC programming fundamentals.

• Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to engineers, operators, and stakeholders.
