This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Engage in practical piping engineering for our FEL-2 and early-phase delivery projects, taking ownership of aspects that our software currently cannot manage to ensure timely project completion.
• Act as the quality control for Candid's automated piping outputs: identify errors before they reach clients and provide feedback to enhance product accuracy.
• Establish the development and validation processes for piping information during FEED and early detailed design phases in power and gas-to-power projects, defining what constitutes "good" work.
• Review and authenticate piping content across P&IDs, line lists, piping specifications, and tie-in lists.
• Create repeatable checks to identify tagging, completeness, and consistency issues early in the process.
• Analyze the occurrences of piping rework, understand the reasons behind it, and identify the inputs that contribute to it.
• Clarify interface points with Process, Mechanical, Instrumentation & Control, Electrical, and Civil/Structural disciplines (including pipe racks and supports).
• Differentiate between genuinely repetitive tasks and those requiring thoughtful engineering judgment.
• Over 7 years of experience in a large-scale EPC, PMC, or owner-operator environment, primarily focused on power generation or gas-to-power fields.
• Direct involvement in combined cycle, simple cycle, gas-to-power, LNG, or cogeneration projects (excluding refining or petrochemical projects).
• Proven track record of personally managing line list and piping specification development through the FEED phase.
• Strong expertise in power plant piping, including high-energy steam cycles (main steam, hot and cold reheat, feedwater), as well as fuel gas, condensate, cooling water, and balance of plant piping.
• Practical knowledge of ASME B31.1 (power piping) and B31.3 (process piping) standards.
• Familiarity with pipe stress analysis and identification of stress-critical lines (using CAESAR II or equivalent software).
• Experience with layout driven by plot plans and 3D models (AVEVA E3D / PDMS, SmartPlant 3D, or similar applications).
• Quick to identify inconsistencies across P&IDs, line lists, and vendor documentation.
• Solid understanding of cross-discipline dependencies.
• Experience feeling constrained by corporate processes and seeking a more flexible environment.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and multitasking; prioritize action over waiting for ideal conditions.
• Competitive base salary plus equity.
• Unlimited paid time off; great work requires time to recharge.
• Comprehensive health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision.
• Health and wellness reimbursement of up to $150 per month (for gym memberships, fitness classes, and similar activities).
