This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance intricate active and passive, large-scale silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) at both the system and device levels.

• Develop new software and scripts as needed to achieve design and analysis objectives.

• Collaborate with foundries and manufacturers.

• Perform trade studies and alternative analysis (AoAs) to investigate design choices and their respective trade-offs for components.

• Suggest and evaluate experiments to validate and improve simulation models.

• Communicate findings verbally and in writing to cross-functional teams.

• Convert analysis into actionable recommendations for future development pathways.

• Address integration challenges with other chips and systems.

• Develop refined simulation workflows and documentation to work alongside other PIC design engineers.

• Collaborate with a team of photonic designers, nanofabrication experts, test engineers, and physicists.

• Train, mentor, and guide team members on all frameworks and best practices.

• Contribute to our intellectual property portfolio.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s or PhD degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related field.

• Over 5 years of experience in silicon photonics within an industrial environment.

• Proficiency in designing photonic layouts using KLayout, Luceda, Cadence, Mentor Graphics, or similar tools.

• Extensive knowledge in designing and optimizing silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and devices.

• Familiarity with common programming languages such as Python and MATLAB.

• Expertise in electromagnetic simulation with commonly used tools like Lumerical (FDTD, MODE, INTERCONNECT) and Tidy3D.

• Solid understanding of photonics, electronics, and electromagnetic compatibility.

• Experience with optical bench experiments using equipment such as parameter analyzers, optical spectrum analyzers, laser sources, etc.

• Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal, and written communication abilities.

• Capability to work independently while also being an effective team player.
