This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Manage all aspects of payroll operations, which includes overseeing timesheets, conducting payroll audits, resolving discrepancies, processing payroll, coordinating funding, and approving final payroll activities.
• Direct payroll delivery for both U.S. and international locations while managing relationships with external payroll providers.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders across various countries.
• Handle payroll-related employee inquiries and complex pay scenarios, ensuring prompt resolutions and maintaining high service standards.
• Conduct payroll audits, reconciliations, execute SOX controls, retain evidence, and respond to both internal and external audit requests.
• Keep track of changes in payroll regulations and tax requirements to ensure compliance and operational readiness.
• Work closely with Finance on payroll funding, payroll accounting, variance analysis, payroll journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end closing tasks.
• Manage reconciliations related to payroll benefit deductions and resolve discrepancies with HR, Finance, and vendors.
• Analyze payroll results, reports, interfaces, and reconciliations; detect anomalies and investigate their root causes.
• Create and implement the organizational payroll roadmap.
• Assess processes, eliminate unnecessary manual tasks, standardize workflows, and introduce sustainable process improvements.
• Leverage Workday Payroll expertise to enhance business processes, reporting, auditing, integrations, data validation, and platform efficiency.
• Discover opportunities to integrate AI, automation, and emerging technologies into payroll operations.
• Establish and refine payroll policies, procedures, controls, governance practices, process documentation, and cross-training resources.
• Oversee payroll reporting, data validation, compliance monitoring, and conduct ad hoc analyses.
• Cultivate collaborative relationships with HR, Finance, Legal, external providers, and other business partners to address issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Over 10 years of payroll experience supporting both U.S. and international payroll operations.
• Experience with Workday Payroll is essential, demonstrating the ability to audit, troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance payroll processes within the system.
• Proven experience in managing outsourced payroll providers and holding vendors accountable for quality, timeliness, issue resolution, and service delivery.
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting, reconciliations, payroll tax, SOX controls, audit requirements, and compliance obligations.
• A track record of successfully leading payroll operations, process redesign, automation, system implementations, and cross-functional transformation initiatives.
• Exceptional attention to detail combined with strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
• A demonstrated curiosity and willingness to investigate results that may seem inconsistent or unexpected.
• CPP or an equivalent payroll certification is preferred.
