Senior Payments Engineer – Acquiring, Payment Processing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design and develop backend services in Golang that connect with payment processors, gateways, and card networks.

• Take full ownership of essential money-movement processes from start to finish: authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, and chargeback/dispute management.

• Create idempotent, fault-tolerant, and auditable transaction processing within a distributed architecture, utilizing patterns such as transactional outbox and messaging queues like Kafka, SQS, or RabbitMQ.

• Work within PCI DSS guidelines, involving tokenization, network tokens, secure handling of payment data, and implementing 3DS/SCA flows when applicable.

• Instrument and oversee payment health metrics, including authorization/decline rates, processor performance, latency, and settlement accuracy, driving ongoing enhancements.

• Leverage AI tools (Claude and similar LLMs) as part of your daily routine to expedite design, coding, research, testing, and documentation while adhering to Sezzle's security and data-handling policies.

• Guide and mentor engineers to elevate the overall capabilities of the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of backend or full-stack engineering experience, with significant involvement in payments, fintech, or money-movement systems.

• Proficient in Go (preferred) or comparable expertise in Python, focusing on building and serving REST APIs.

• Practical experience integrating with payment processors, gateways, or acquiring systems, along with a solid understanding of payment fundamentals: authorization versus settlement, tokenization, idempotency, reconciliation, and chargebacks/disputes.

• Familiarity with distributed, cloud-based architectures using techniques such as transactional outboxes or queuing tools (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ).

• Proven, hands-on experience utilizing Claude or a similar LLM to improve productivity, research, and communication — demonstrating comfort in making AI a central aspect of your workflow and showcasing its impact on your output.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
