This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Prepare intricate technical legal documents, such as indictments, arrest warrants, motions, orders, plea agreements, subpoenas, and legal memoranda.
• Gather information from criminal case files, law enforcement agencies, and other sources for the creation of legal documents.
• Ensure that recurring legal documents adhere to local court rules and meet the required style and format.
• Support attorneys in trial preparation by assembling trial and witness notebooks, organizing exhibits, compiling jury instructions, and creating witness and exhibit lists.
• Collaborate with the victim/witness specialist regarding responsibilities related to victims’ rights and services.
• Verify legal citations and statutory references utilizing Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis.
• Proofread, edit, and revise legal briefs to ensure accuracy and clarity.
• Electronically file legal documents with the U.S. District Court using CM/ECF.
• Create tables of contents and indices for briefs, listing cited cases and references.
• Draft correspondence related to court orders, extensions, case developments, and notifications for defendants and attorneys.
• Scan, input, link, upload, and download case materials within electronic discovery databases.
• Oversee discovery processing and production, including Bates-stamping and redacting documents using Adobe Acrobat and potentially IPRO Eclipse.
• Distribute ongoing discovery to defense counsel as directed by the assigned AUSA.
• Maintain electronic case files and enter pertinent data into the case management system.
• Schedule deadlines using MS Outlook and prepare case-opening and conflict-of-interest forms.
• Organize files for closure ensuring all required case materials and approvals are present.
• Compile pleadings for next-day hearings after verifying court calendars.
• Execute docketing duties, monitor filings, generate reports, analyze case management data, and resolve discrepancies.
• Respond to email and telephone inquiries, providing information about ongoing and resolved matters as well as office procedures.
• Minimum DOJ MBI clearance is required to begin employment.
• This position is covered by the Service Contract Act.
• Expertise in Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis for legal research and citation verification.
• Proficiency in CM/ECF for electronic court filing.
• Experience with electronic discovery databases and the processes involved in discovery production.
• Skilled in using Adobe Acrobat for Bates-stamping and redaction purposes.
• Familiarity with IPRO Eclipse may be required for discovery processing.
• Working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized legal terminology is essential.
• Understanding of local court rules and regulations governing the style and format of legal documents.
• Ability to utilize case management systems for docketing, searches, reporting, data analysis, and reconciliation.
• Competency in using MS Outlook for managing deadlines.
• Capability to handle criminal case files, investigative materials, discovery documents, grand jury materials, transcripts, and related legal documentation.
