This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +8 more states.
• Support the preparation, docketing, electronic submission, portfolio management, and upkeep of patent applications.
• Conduct research and gather information related to national and international intellectual property rights.
• Create status summary reports for attorneys and clients.
• Coordinate international filings with foreign legal offices and other international entities.
• Work alongside the Docketing Team to manage and track deadlines for responses, renewals, oppositions, affidavits, Patent Cooperation Treaty obligations, and foreign patent annuity payments.
• Assist in litigation related to intellectual property.
• Aid in oppositions, interferences, and cancellations while drafting necessary legal documents.
• Perform online searches of Patent and Trademark Office records, industry databases, and legal research resources.
• Conduct searches for trademark information.
• Submit applications, statements of use, renewal requests, affidavits of use, and assignments.
• Draft responses to PTO actions and oppositions.
• Enhance technical skills in database management, electronic research, and electronic file maintenance.
• Independently organize and manage files.
• Attend and participate in internal Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions.
• Anticipate the needs of attorneys.
• Provide mentorship to a Paralegal Assistant or junior Paralegal as required.
• Occasionally interact with clients.
• Achieve an annual billable-hour target of 1,500 hours.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as an intellectual property paralegal.
• Patent experience is preferred.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences, and/or biotech patent prosecution is preferred.
• Familiarity with filing sequence listings and managing multi-jurisdictional international patent portfolios is preferred.
• An Associate’s degree is required.
• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program is preferred.
• Significant substantive legal-related experience may be accepted in place of formal education.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Capacity for independent thought.
• Ability to interact professionally and provide outstanding internal and external service.
• Highly organized, with the capability to prioritize tasks and manage projects.
• Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, adhering to established timelines and ongoing deadlines.
• Familiarity with adopting legal AI and a willingness to learn and implement new AI technologies is preferred.
• Ability to learn and gain proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
