Senior Oracle Database Developer – Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Act as the main database subject matter expert for a critical statewide educational data initiative for the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Student Data System.

• Design, optimize, and sustain intricate database pipelines that process data across over 1,200 public school districts.

• Create, implement, and oversee advanced Oracle SQL and PL/SQL packages, procedures, and functions.

• Analyze query plans and fine-tune database operations to reduce SGA, PGA, and Temporary Space usage.

• Develop data manipulation routines for querying, transforming, and storing JSON structures within Oracle tables and relational views.

• Establish data mapping pipelines among Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL environments.

• Work alongside Java and .NET application developers to identify integration bottlenecks and database interaction challenges.

• Execute development and unit testing, design test cases, and maintain thorough technical documentation.

• Engage in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release deployments.

• Ensure schema modifications and database upgrades align with client software development standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in enterprise databases and systems.

• Extensive knowledge in Oracle SQL and advanced PL/SQL programming.

• Practical experience with bulk collect, partitioned structures, and complex data modeling.

• Experience in database performance tuning and optimization, including SGA, PGA, and TempSpace utilization.

• Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server and relational database systems.

• Experience in end-to-end unit testing, comprehensive test case design, and technical system documentation.

• Continuous experience in delivering database features within Agile or Scrum frameworks.

• At least 4 years of specialized experience with JSON and optimization.

• Proficient in storing, parsing, querying, and manipulating JSON payloads directly within Oracle tables.

• Capability to design complex analytical queries and high-performance views sourcing from JSON data.

• Experience in tuning stored procedures and views that interact with nested JSON structures.

• Preferred: 5+ years of experience using Jira.

• Preferred: 5+ years of experience using Bitbucket/Git.

• Preferred: 2+ years of experience with Nomad workload orchestration.

• Preferred: 2+ years supporting TSDS or similar large-scale state agency education platforms.

• Familiarity with JasperReports, enterprise ETL orchestration tools, or Java/.NET integration hooks.
