Senior Network Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical planning and execution of designated network transport projects, workstreams, modernization initiatives, technology refreshes, and engineering tasks.

• Facilitate engineering activities across various technical domains, sites, vendors, and infrastructure sectors.

• Offer technical advice, evaluate engineering deliverables, troubleshoot problems, and mentor engineering staff.

• Examine operational, functional, technical, cybersecurity, performance, capacity, availability, interoperability, and supportability specifications.

• Conduct functional analysis, alternatives analysis, trade studies, requirements distribution, interface definition, solution architecture, detailed design, and lifecycle planning.

• Create and sustain network designs, diagrams, bills of material, IP addressing schemes, port maps, rack elevations, configuration templates, implementation procedures, rollback plans, testing procedures, and as-built documentation.

• Organize and execute laboratory validation, integration, interoperability, performance, failover, site-acceptance, and various other testing procedures.

• Design and integrate secure, scalable, and resilient network transport solutions across campus, data center, branch, remote-site, enterprise-edge, and WAN environments.

• Configure, integrate, test, deploy, and troubleshoot routers, switches, network management appliances, optical interfaces, console systems, and other transport components.

• Integrate multi-vendor technologies and resolve interoperability challenges.

• Integrate network transport with DNS, DHCP, IPAM, authentication, authorization, accounting, time synchronization, certificate services, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, encryption, and boundary protection systems.

• Conduct packet and traffic analysis, root cause analysis, corrective measures, and laboratory validation.

• Develop and implement methods for procedure, installation, migration, testing, and rollback processes.

• Provide remote or on-site engineering assistance for installation, integration, testing, troubleshooting, acceptance, and transition activities.

• Facilitate network monitoring, telemetry, configuration backup, version control, compliance assessment, configuration drift detection, and restoration processes.

• Evaluate network performance, lifecycle status, software and firmware updates, vulnerabilities, configuration baselines, and change packages.

• Collaborate with Network Operations, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, application and server teams, facilities management, program management, customers, vendors, carriers, subcontractors, and system integrators.

• Lead or take part in technical discussions, architecture, design, test readiness, implementation readiness, and operational transition reviews.

• Assist with carrier escalations and communicate technical issues, risks, alternatives, dependencies, and recommendations to stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance.

• Bachelor’s degree and 8–12 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree and 6–10 years of relevant experience.

• Progressive engineering experience in enterprise routing, switching, LAN, WAN, data center networking, carrier transport, network architecture, or a closely related technical field.

• Proven experience leading complex projects, implementations, migrations, or engineering workstreams involving multiple technologies or technical areas.

• Experience in requirements analysis, alternatives analysis, trade studies, solution design, integration, testing, implementation planning, documentation, fielding, and transition to operations.

• Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues across multiple systems, sites, technologies, or engineering disciplines.

• Experience providing technical guidance, peer reviews, training, or mentoring to fellow engineers.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant education, certifications, and practical experience may be considered where permitted.

• Advanced knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, static routing, route redistribution, summarization, filtering, path selection, and routing policy.

• Strong understanding of Ethernet, VLANs, trunking, Spanning Tree Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree, Multiple Spanning Tree, link aggregation, LACP, Cisco vPC, Arista MLAG, or similar technologies.

• Experience with enterprise WAN, SD-WAN, MPLS, carrier Ethernet, broadband, internet transport, IPsec VPN, GRE, DMVPN, or comparable technologies.

• Experience with data center networking, leaf-spine architectures, high-availability switching, data center interconnect, EVPN, VXLAN, network overlays, and workload connectivity.

• Working knowledge of fiber-optic transport, transceivers, optical budgets, CWDM, DWDM, wavelength services, dark fiber, metro Ethernet, and telecommunications carrier services.

• Experience designing and troubleshooting VLAN, VRF, routed-boundary, overlay, access-control, or multi-tenant segmentation solutions.

• Experience in designing and validating QoS policies.

• Working knowledge of IGMP, PIM, rendezvous-point design, multicast routing, and multicast troubleshooting.

• Experience with network monitoring, configuration management, telemetry, SNMPv3, syslog, NetFlow, IPFIX, streaming telemetry, and performance-reporting platforms.

• Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, IP address management, AAA, RADIUS, TACACS+, NTP, PTP, certificate services, and related infrastructure dependencies.

• Familiarity with secure configuration baselines, access control, network segmentation, authentication, encryption, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, and applicable cybersecurity requirements.

• Demonstrated ability to utilize Wireshark, packet-capture platforms, network test equipment, optical power meters, protocol analyzers, device debugs, routing tables, flow data, logs, telemetry, and monitoring systems.

• Experience with enterprise network technologies from Cisco, Arista, Juniper, HPE Aruba, Extreme Networks, Ruckus/Brocade, Nokia, Ciena, or similar vendors.

• Proficiency in Python, Ansible, PowerShell, REST APIs, NETCONF, RESTCONF, YANG, or similar automation tools.

• Capability to independently lead intricate technical projects and provide technical direction, coordination, and mentorship without formal supervisory authority.

• Strong judgment, decision-making, verbal and written communication, customer and stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities.

• Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise or comparable advanced routing and switching certification preferred.

• CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure is beneficial but not required.

• Other relevant network, transport, or cybersecurity certifications are preferred.
