Senior Network Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for the network backbone of Contabo Group

• Develop and manage the new AI data center

• Take charge of the Leaf-Spine architecture utilizing Arista EOS, BGP EVPN, and VXLAN

• Guide the AI data center from its commissioning phase to stable operational status

• Design, construct, and manage intricate network, server, and security systems

• Ensure the reliable maintenance of existing LTG infrastructure

• Analyze and troubleshoot network issues

• Strengthen network security through the use of scrubbers, firewalls, ACLs, and NAC

• Oversee network traffic and infrastructure performance monitoring

• Derive relevant KPIs for management review

• Collaborate with external service providers and remote teams worldwide

• Keep network diagrams, runbooks, change logs, and system documentation updated

• Work alongside Platform Engineering on Cilium BGP peering, Kubernetes node network setup, and IPAM

• Serve as the ongoing liaison between NetOps and Platform Engineering

• Participate in a self-organizing agile team, managing issues from analysis to resolution

• Enhance infrastructure automation, DDoS mitigation using Nokia Deepfield, observability, and BGP EVPN fabric engineering

• Engage in national and international projects

• Report directly to the Head of Network

• Act as the permanent point of contact for networking-related issues across Contabo Group

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of practical experience with complex, scalable networks and fabric infrastructures on Cisco and/or Arista

• Familiarity with Leaf-Spine architecture and BGP EVPN VXLAN

• Extensive knowledge in WAN connectivity, data center peering, uplink management, VPN, and IPv6

• Proficient in security administration and DDoS mitigation, including tools like Nokia Deepfield and Aurologic

• Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Check_MK, or Zabbix

• Skills in scripting and automation with Ansible, Terraform, Python, or similar technologies

• Experience with Network Access Control solutions, BGP Flowspec, Proxmox virtualization, and IPAM systems like NetBox

• Basic understanding of Kubernetes networking

• Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities

• Clear and confident communication abilities

• Results-oriented, hands-on approach with a focus on customer satisfaction and calmness under pressure

• Team-oriented, dependable, and capable of working autonomously without micromanagement

• Strong conflict resolution skills and aptitude for building cross-team relationships

• Willingness to embrace change

• Arista certification or equivalent Cisco expertise is preferred

• Completed IT apprenticeship or equivalent is preferred

• Proficiency in German in addition to excellent English is preferred
