This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Lead high-performing teams that manage mission-critical, data-intensive platforms.
• Empower engineers and technical leads to create scalable and resilient solutions.
• Integrate AI as a fundamental element of the software development lifecycle.
• Achieve a balance between platform stability and delivery speed.
• Cultivate a culture of accountability, autonomy, and ongoing improvement across engineering, DevOps, product, and compliance teams.
• 8–12+ years of experience in software engineering or systems development.
• Over 5 years of experience leading complex deliveries through other engineers, whether through formal or informal leadership.
• A proven history of guiding engineering teams that have effectively utilized AI tools (such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude, Kiro, etc.) as a primary component of the SDLC, demonstrating productivity improvements in code generation, code review, and testing.
• Hands-on experience with large, high-transaction data systems, particularly with RDBMS-centric architectures (Oracle is highly preferred).
• Demonstrated experience in:
• Production change control.
• Incident response.
• Data integrity and operational risk management.
• Working in regulated or audit-bound environments (experience with SOC 2-like rigor is a significant advantage).
• Nice To Have:
• Experience in insurance, fintech, or government-adjacent systems.
• Familiarity with cloud and legacy hybrid environments.
• Experience guiding teams through role ambiguity and changes in operating models.
• Previous responsibility encompassing engineering, DevOps, and platform operations.
• Technical Skills:
• Experience designing systems that fully capitalize on AI benefits, using agentic workflows, AI orchestration, prompt and context engineering, RAG, and MCP.
• Ability to evaluate architectural trade-offs with objectivity.
• Proficient in asking the right technical questions of tech leads.
• Understanding of database-centric performance and scalability factors.
• Actively engaging in risk, incident, and readiness discussions.
• Leadership Skills:
• Proactively hires and upskills talent to excel in the fast-evolving AI landscape, normalizing AI-assisted development as a standard expectation.
• Fosters autonomy through clarity rather than control.
• Demonstrates strong judgment in delegation, intentionally deciding when to lead, when to empower, and when to intervene.
• Comfortable with tech leads managing design and implementation while providing constraints, risk signals, and organizational context.
• Able to remain calm when:
• Expectations are misaligned.
• Authority boundaries are in flux.
• Organizational memory is inconsistent.
• Actively coaches and develops senior engineers.
• Identifies burnout and sustainability risks early.
• Capable of "managing up" without becoming adversarial.
