Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop software engineering teams.

• Oversee team capacity, staffing, and workforce planning.

• Manage contractor and vendor resources as necessary.

• Identify skill gaps and create plans to meet organizational needs.

• Ensure efficient utilization of engineering resources across projects.

• Lead software development activities throughout all stages of the development lifecycle.

• Ensure that delivery commitments are fulfilled with the appropriate level of quality, security, and operational controls.

• Monitor project execution while proactively managing risks, dependencies, and issues.

• Support Agile delivery methodologies and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Collaborate with Product Owners and Delivery teams to prioritize tasks and enhance business value.

• Partner with Architecture teams to implement organizational standards and technical direction.

• Advocate for engineering best practices, coding standards, automation, and DevSecOps principles.

• Drive ongoing enhancements in quality, reliability, performance, and operational readiness.

• Support modernization projects and initiatives aimed at reducing technical debt.

• Promote secure software development practices.

• Build relationships with business and technology partners.

• Communicate delivery commitments, risks, and outcomes effectively.

• Facilitate collaboration across functions and resolve issues.

• Assist in planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in software engineering, application development, or a related technology field.

• More than 5 years of experience leading software projects or managing software engineering resources, including responsibilities such as coaching, performance management, staffing, or capacity planning.

• Proven track record in leading the delivery of enterprise software throughout the complete software development lifecycle.

• Experience managing multiple priorities, teams, dependencies, and stakeholders within a complex organizational structure.

• Familiarity with Agile software delivery and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, source control, automated testing, and production support.

• Demonstrated success in recruiting, coaching, developing, and retaining engineering talent.

• Strong communication and relationship management skills, capable of translating technical concepts for business and executive audiences.

• Experience in a Product Agile operating model is preferred.

• Experience leading multiple geographically distributed engineering teams is preferred.

• Background in health care, health insurance, pharmacy, financial services, or another regulated industry is preferred.

• Knowledge of cloud technologies, APIs, distributed systems, modern application architectures, and platform modernization is preferred.

• Familiarity with engineering and product metrics is preferred.

• Experience with budget planning, vendor management, workforce strategy, or technology portfolio planning is preferred.

• Certifications in Agile, Scrum, SAFe, cloud, security, or engineering management are preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; alternatively, a high school diploma plus 4 years of relevant work experience.
