
Senior Manager, Payroll and Total Rewards

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of payroll operations and total rewards for a rapidly expanding workforce across multiple states and countries.
• Oversee complete operations and enhance our systems and processes to accommodate a growing, distributed team in the US and Canada.
• Manage our extensive benefits programs, cultivate key vendor partnerships, and implement our compensation and bonus frameworks to ensure competitiveness and support employee wellbeing.
• Report directly to the VP of People and collaborate closely with Finance and Legal departments.
• Execute our total rewards strategy, effectively communicating any changes to the total rewards framework throughout the organization.
• Manage payroll operations for the US and Canada across all active states and provinces, including setting up multi-state tax accounts, handling registrations, resolving mispayments and penalties, and ensuring ongoing compliance.
• Develop and sustain integrations across payroll, HRIS, and Finance systems while managing all associated vendor relationships.
• Assist Finance with annual audits and due diligence related to payroll, benefits, and compliance for personnel.
• Between 4 to 8 years of experience in payroll and total rewards or benefits within a multi-state setting, ideally at a SaaS company in a startup environment.
• A well-rounded generalist with equal comfort in managing payroll and tax compliance as well as administering benefits, 401(k), and compensation programs.
• Practical experience with payroll platforms such as Gusto, Rippling, and/or Paylocity, preferably having led or co-led a migration between systems.
• Proven ability to establish and manage multi-state tax accounts and navigate state payroll compliance requirements.
• Hands-on experience in benefits administration, including managing a broker and leading the annual renewal process and open enrollment.
• Knowledge of 401(k) administration and compliance regulations.
• Understanding of compensation structures, including pay bands, ranges, and bonus management.
• Strong project management skills, capable of overseeing complex implementations with minimal supervision.
• Experience working closely with Finance on headcount, inputs for total rewards, and audit support.
• Comfortable with uncertainty and capable of establishing processes where none exist.
• Emphasize quality over speed; ensure that tasks are thoroughly completed.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
• Proactive in anticipating and resolving issues before they emerge.
